Soul Grinder and 'Bloodletter' progress update

Hey everyone, welcome back to SB40k.  I missed a week there with a post but hopefully I'll be forgiven after doing this post with extra pictures!  First I'll go over my hobby progress and then I'll talk about the game I played last Sunday.

First up, the Soul Grinders.  I've been slowly modifying 2 of my Soul Grinders to fit the theme of the Horror Brains 'Aliens Attack!!!' theme.  So far the progress is going well but there's still a decent amount I'll have to do before I'm ready to prime and repaint them.

The top bubble will house a brain controlling the Soul Grinder beast, of course.  Much of the detail needed is on the guns and around the top portion of the vehicle, mostly around the bubble.  Still, I'm loving the way they look and really can't wait to have them completed.

I've also been working on the Killer Robots the last two days, to be used for the Khorne units in the Daemon army.  Here's what I have so far...

Sufficiently cheesy?  Heck yeah!!  I'm planning on adding additional thickness to the head area at the back with some definition, perhaps a control panel.  I've also added a concave to the eyes for a little definition which isn't in these images.  Cost to make is probably around 30 cents in materials.  I'm also planning a similar version where the bottom half is tank treads with a similar upper body, arms, and head to act as Flesh Hounds of Khorne.  The robots will be an interesting addition, for sure.

As for hobby, it seems I've found a regular Sunday hang out to play games, which is huge for me.  Still making tons of mistakes, but there is so much to keep track of in a Daemon army it's almost mind boggling.  This past Sunday I played a game against 2 armies, everyone at 1500 points.  I played my Tzeentch brain Daemons vs Eldar and an Ork bike list.  Talk about being gimped!  Eldrad made getting psychic powers off nigh impossible and those bikes came in fast and hard.  The game was a blast, though, and I look forward to hopefully playing again this Sunday.

Anyways, hope you're all enjoying my scratch build adventure.  Till next time, happy gaming!

  1. I like them! Dig the Khorne robot. Only thing I'm not sure of is the double bubble on the grinder. Ever watch Dr. Who? I think without the double bubble and adding armor like Daleks (sp) would look good. Armot with large dome rivets.

    1. Thanks Eric! I have left the top bubble as detatchable so it can be seen through to the brain, but the front set of 2 will be primed over and painted. I wanted something to resemble gas tank style things, though I like the idea of adding bumps or ridges to it to give it a not-so smooth look. Rivets I could definitely do!

    2. OK. That makes more sense. Can't wait to see it finished.

Played a game today with Screamers, 2 Heralds of Tzeentch ML3 on Discs, and Grimore and 2 ether blades. That unit was rocking despite losing most to shooting first turn before I could get the grimiore off. Had first turn, but initiative was stolen.

Horrors were also good. The whole re-rolling saves of 1 came in more handy than I thought it would.

    3. Haha, I had a LOT of things go against me in my game today. I may do a write up yet this weekend, but I also experienced the initiative being stolen. I'm also a fan of Horrors, but I think I'll go with 2 units of 16 to sit backfield while other units beat face up close.

It was a very unpleasant game that saw me learning a LOT!

    4. Yeah. Still lost the game. I did decide to take the Warp Storm roll targeting all my Tzeentch units and dealing D6 star 4 ap 3 hits to everything on a 6. Didn't touch any of my stuff, but killed 3 fire warriors. . .

Good points of the game, first turn not losing my two daemon princes to three hammer heads. I thought for sure I was going to lose them. Had them set up to glide first turn out in open. One hammer head missed, the other two hit and wounded. I made both my 5++. It was great. One prince had Feel No Pain and saved a lot of shots with it. My portal glyph made it the whole game, and made 6 extra horrors. Not too bad. Fateweaver lived the whole game. Overall, a learning expierence with a new list.

    5. I've noticed people generally ignore the Portalglyph, especially if it is out of the way.

My current "to be built" army list at 1850 is like this-

      HQ
Lord of Change, 1 Lesser Reward, 2 Greater Rewards
2 Heralds of Khorne, Juggernauts, Lesser Reward, Greater Locus of Fury
2 Heralds of Tzeentch, Exalted Locus of Conjuration, 1 Exalted Reward

      Troops
2 Units 16 Pink Horrors (Tz Heralds go in these, of course)

      Fast
2 Units 14 Flesh Hounds of Khorne

      Heavy
2 Soul Grinders of Khorne, Phlegm

I may change a Grinder out for a Skull Cannon yet, not sure.

    6. I like the Soul Grinders. I haven't used a Skull Cannon yet. Do you have a model planned for Skull Cannon? I played mono-tzeentch for so long, I don't have any other chaos god models. If I were to add another god to my lists, I'm thinking Slaanesh for speed. Lash of Despair on a prince seems nasty.

The list I had was something like this. I threw it together last minute.

      Fateweaver
2 Disc Tzeralds 1 with Book, 1 with 2 Ether Blade, both ML3 all Divination powers
Herald of Tzeentch, ML2 with exalted locus and portalglyph

      2x 10 Horrors
      1x20 Horrors

      9 Screamers

2x Daemon Prince of Tzeentch with Staff of Change, 2 greater gifts, ML1 Biomancy, Aromor and wings.

Might change the two princes to 1 Prince and two Burning Chariots with greater ether blade.
